Minimal Schlager + Buenatarde
Based between London and Berlin, the duo Minimal Schlager has found the perfect balance between pure pop and dark synthpop, drawing clear influences from italodisco, new wave, and Berlin’s nightlife. The result: an energetic live performance with catchy, evocative, and dreamlike songs that wouldn’t seem out of place in a David Lynch soundtrack or Stranger Things.
After their debut album Love, Sex and Dreams, described by UNCUT as a “stylish synthpop melodrama,” the band embarked on a European tour with 35 shows across 10 countries, supporting acts like The KVB, Ploho, Curses, Torres, and Lust for Youth. They followed this with Dance is a Place of Resilience, a compilation featuring new tracks, remixes, demos, and covers. In 2024, Minimal Schlager returned to SXSW in Austin, performing 7 shows in 6 days, including a showcase for Italians Do It Better (Desire, Johnny Jewel), where they received excellent reviews for their new material.
Buenatarde is the musical project of Málaga-born, Madrid-based producer Mané López, who creates confessional pop songs with deep emotional resonance. His debut EP La Bajona Cuqui (2020) marked an introduction to dreamy bedroom pop via self-production, followed by La Extrema Belleza (2021), released on vinyl by Lago/Cráter, which was produced by Ferran Resines and Cristian Pallejà. This album drew comparisons to his influences, such as Perfume Genius and Wild Nothing.
In 2024, Buenatarde will return with La Santa Paciencia, a new album where López takes the reins of production again to deliver a more refined sound, blending elements of Chromatics, italodisco, and EBM.
