EL PERSONAJE DE UN CUADRO DE DEGAS SE CONVIERTE EN PROTAGONISTA DE UNA REFLEXIÓN SOBRE LA INVISIBILIZACIÓN DE QUIEN ES DIFERENTE.

THE DISAPPEARING ACT SE BASA EN LA PROPIA EXPERIENCIA DE UNA BAILAORA INGLESA CON RAÍCES EN GHANA, QUE PRESENTA SU PRIMER SOLO. NUESTRA TEMPORADA DE DANZA VUELVE A CIRCULAR POR UN TERRENO MESTIZO DE ALTA CALIDAD Y CONTEMPORÁNEO QUE NO REQUIERE SINO SENTARSE Y DISFRUTAR. HÁGANLO CON NOSOTROS.

Nadie mejor que esta bailaora de flamenco de padre jamaicano y madre ghanesa para explicarnos con el lenguaje del baile qué ocurre cuando alguien está pero las miradas lo atraviesan, cuando nadie se fija, cuando todos lo ignoran. Por eso en este montaje, el primero que protagoniza en solitario, tiene una especial relevancia el concepto de “cripsis”, que hace referencia a la capacidad de algunos animales de evitar ser percibidos, bien como táctica depredatoria o bien como defensa.

Para esta propuesta la creadora sitúa en pleno centro del mismo al personaje de Olga Brown, la figura mulata que aparece en el único cuadro de Degas que retrata el mundo del circo: Miss La La en el Circo Fernando. Yinka Esi Graves toma en préstamo su nombre y convierte a su protagonista en La Lala, una acróbata conocida también como la femme canon, mediante la cual explora esa invisibilización que puede ser tanto un arma como una defensa. Posiblemente no conocíais a este personaje, ni tampoco al de Jacinto Padilla, también conocido como El Negro Meri o El Mulato Meri, que es uno de los primeros artistas flamencos que aparecen en un filme de los hermanos Lumière y un ejemplo más de invisibilización en la historia del arte.

La danza, la música y el vídeo en directo, así como el texto, conforman un experimento donde la eliminación, la ausencia y la invisibilidad son materiales con los que crear.

En la pieza colaboran el guitarrista flamenco Raúl Cantizano, pionero de la improvisación en este género, la poeta y batería Remi Graves, que aborda la obra con grooves influenciados por el hiphop y el jazz y la cantaora Rosa de Algeciras, que crea letras inspiradas en el concepto del espectáculo.
